Full-on summer this past week–cicada wings singing at night and a heat wave in the high 90s every day with humidity through the roof. Mornings start in the 80s, so no relief even for the early risers. The air felt dense and closed in. Not as bad as two summers ago with its long stretch of temperature over 100 degrees, but very unpleasant. Winter cold makes you want to bundle up, but you can still stand to go outside for a bit. This hot weather makes you feel more bunkered down than a blizzard of snow falling. I dream of cool walks in San Francisco, a place immune to the vagaries of the swamp heat of the East Coast in hot July.
Here’s a rooftop shot from a few years ago of SF with the noise cleaned up by a great program, Noiseware.
