Ice

Thin layer of ice over the Potomac above Great Falls. It had hardly been cold, some days even in the high 50s (Now, of course, a different story as the numbers drop lower and lower, and the sprinkling of snow last week has barely melted). In the sun, the ice merely seemed a veneer of little interest, but putting on my sunglasses revealed to me swirls of frozen currents as if a sprightly dancer had marked out a ballet across the ice. A gem hidden in the light.
