Tulips for the End of Summer

The fulsome foliage outside hums with cicada song. The green darkens, the bushes grow beyond their boundaries, and it all signals the crest of the season. Time to pack the leather bag with summer readings already read and lesson plans to hammer out, time to head back to school and its flurries of work. But at summer’s end, tulips in display, curving in a late morning light. A bouquet to August’s last weeks.
